We don’t yet have a season two of Squid Game but the series’ creator and director has revealed that a third season is already in discussion.

You remember Squid Game: the thrilling show with a shocking survival competition; the most-watched original Netflix production of all time.

Despite its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, initially sounding hesitant to continue with the series, its mammoth success meant that further seasons were basically guaranteed.

And that’s how it’s looking. In a new interview with Korean broadcaster KBS (as per Yonhap News Agency), Hwang discussed Squid Game‘s future. “I’m in talks with Netflix over season two as well as season three,” he revealed. “We will come to a conclusion any time soon.”

This is the first mention of a third season after Hwang first confirmed a second season back in November. “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice,” he said. “But, I will say that there will indeed be a second season.”

While you wait for the next seasons of Squid Game, take a look at our predictions for where the show’s storylines could go in season two. Hwang himself has teased the possibility of the focus switching to the mysterious Front Man in future episodes.

After breaking industry records in 2021, Squid Game also looks set to dominate awards season next year. It’s nominated for Best Television Series, Drama at the 2022 Golden Globes, while Lee Jung-jae is in competition for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama and O Yeong-su is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Television. The series previously won Breakthrough Series, Long Format at the 2021 Gotham Awards.
