Everyone loves The Wiggles. Everyone, at one point, has dreamt about being one of The Wiggles. Hollywood star Steve Carell, it seems, has thought about joining the lineup more than most.
The Office icon submitted an earnest audition tape to join the beloved Aussie children’s group, aiming to pull on the hallowed yellow jersey previously worn by Emma Watkins.
Awkwardness ensued, however, when poor Steve realised that The Wiggles had already found a replacement for Watkins in Tsehay Hawkins, who joined the lineup last year.
In one last move, Carell then pleaded to join the group anyway, insisting he has “so much experience with the colour yellow” (more on that later) and that he knows all of the words to The Wiggles’ songs. “What about green? Have you thought about a green Wiggle?” he asked desperately.
“It was so much fun filming with Steve, and we’d welcome him as an honorary Yellow Wiggle anytime!” the group’s Anthony Field said. “He knew all the words to our songs, and we’re big fans of Minions, but we might have to have a word about his allergy to fruit salad!”

The comical clip was created to celebrate the release of Carell’s new film, the very yellow-themed Minions: The Rise of Gru. It’s the sequel to 2015’s Minions and the fifth entry in the Despicable Me franchise.
“Minions: The Rise of Gru tells the origin story of how a 12-year-old Gru first met his iconic Minions, forged cinema’s most despicable crew and faced off against the most unstoppable criminal force ever assembled,” the film’s description reads.
“Growing up in 1970s suburbia, Gru is the devoted fanboy of the supervillain supergroup, the Vicious 6, so when they oust their leader, Gru interviews to become their newest member. It doesn’t go well.”
The voice cast for Minions: The Rise of Gru is hilariously varied, featuring Russell Brand, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, and Julie Andrews. The film is set to hit cinemas on June 23rd.
