Capcom are re-releasing their finest video game achievement – Street Fighter 2 – as a limited-edition Super Nintendo cartridge.

The release is fully playable on an NTSC Super Nintendo, and limited to 5,500 copies. It retails for $US100 ($127), can be pre-ordered right now, and will ship in November.

Better than this, it will be available in two non-grey colours : Opaque Ryu Headband Red, and the ultra-rare Translucent, Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green, of which only 1,000 copies will be made. They ship completely at random, so it’s a matter of luck which colour you get.

As the company explains: “The “Legacy Cartridge Collection” embodies retro-inspired luxury, amplifying the core SNES box design with a glistening foil sheen, delicately embossed texture, chic spot varnish and an innovative tri-fold cover that opens to reveal bonus vintage art.

“Inside, we’re keeping it old-school by restoring the contents of the original instruction booklet, complete with a new archival cover print + secret pack-ins (to be revealed when you crack that shrink-wrap seal).”

Better yet, this is the start of a reissue campaign, meaning other games are on their way. Of course, you’ll have to dig up an NTSC-compatible SNES system to play it on, but eBay is your friend.
