Sunrise host presenter Edwina Bartholomew has apologised to viewers after footage of birds mating was played during a live segment on the morning show.
Edwina was presenting the show alongside Mark Beretta, while regular hosts Nat Barr and Kochie are on holidays, and spoke to Sunrise bird expert Dr Grainne Cleary. During the segment, footage of birds mating in the wild played on TV.
“Grainne, I’ve noticed our bird content has risen exponentially since we found you, and we’re all the more grateful for it,” Edwina said with a laugh. “Thank you so much for coming on this morning.
She added, “And apologies to viewers who had to explain that vision to their children who are watching this morning!”
Mark explained what had happened to a confused Dr Clearly.
“While you were speaking we had great matchmaking moments of birds around the world on the screen. It was a nature experience this morning,” he said.
“Those eagles really were getting on well,” Eddy added.

“The ibises surprised me!” Mark joked, to which Eddy replied, “They always do, Beretts!”
Back in June, Sunrise presenter Kochie announced that he was taking personal leave from the popular breakfast news show to attend his daughter’s wedding in London.
“Georgie is getting married, the last of the four, so it’s going to be good,” he said.
Kochie explained that he and his family will be staying with his future-son-in-laws family. “We’re all sharing a house with he and his parents before the wedding and we’ve never met.”
He added, “It’ll either be Father Of The Bride or Nightmare On Elm Street. It will be a bit of fun.”
Kochie’s daughter Georgie got engaged to her partner Alex, who is a German national, in September 2020. Her proud dad took to Instagram to publicly announce the news.
“When your baby girl gets engaged. Congrats to @georgie_koch and “The German” aka @alex_merks … we couldn’t be happier for you both,” he wrote alongside a photo of the happy couple.
