Australian Survivor star Rogue Rubin has been criticised for being racist after telling fellow player, Nina Twine, who is an African-American woman, that she’s “more African”.
During one of the scene’s in last night’s premiere of Survivor: Heroes Vs Villains, Nina explained to the other cast-aways that she was from the east coast of America.
“North Carolina. On the east coast. All the way on the other side,” Nina said. For some reason, Rogue appeared to take the explanation as condescending and snapped back.
“Because I live there half the time, I don’t need you to explain it to me like I’m an idiot,” Rogue shot back, putting her hand on Twine’s shoulder. “I work in the US all the time.”
She added, “I’m more African-American than you are, you need to understand that. Because I’m from Africa.”
Rubin was born in Cape Town, South Africa but resides in Australia.
While Nina bit her tongue over the remark, viewers on social media labelled the statement “racist” and her Survivor super-star mother Sandra jumped to her defence.

“Oh, this Rogue Rubin demoness is racist & (very) proud of it. Was for some reason () itching to ‘correct’ Nina at literally anything she said,” one person tweeted.
Another penned, “Rogue Rubin prolly has talked like this to many POC in real life. Shes ones of those know it all who thinks she understands every issue n been everywhere. A narcissist who lacks humility.”
A third wrote, “Rogue by name rogue by nature that comment was not needed. It was tonedeaf af. I would have gone atomic. Nina handled that with such class.” And another outraged social media user said, “The white chick to Nina: “I’m more African-American than you are.” What the?”
Feeling for Nina. She’s already playing on a cast with little diversity, as the only black person, let alone the only non-Australian, only to have Rogue offensively undermine her identity from the very beginning. As if Survivor isn’t hard enough #SurvivorAU
