Broadcaster and writer Benjamin Law has revealed that he turned down another reality TV show before he was cast on Australian Survivor: Heroes vs Villains.

During a chat on the TV Reload podcast, Law told the hosts that when he turned down the other role, he told casting agents that he’d be interested in Survivor if it were ‘on the table’.

“I was actually having conversations about possibly being on another reality TV show. And I was like, ‘look, that’s not really up my alley, respect that show, but not quite for me. But hey, if Australian survivors on the table’, I said, jokingly, ‘Uh, get them to give me a call sometime.'”

He continued, “And I think word got out and people thought the idea was either so delicious or ridiculous or both that eventually I did get a call and said, Hey, are you serious? Because we might be able to make something happen. And then I went through the whole interview and vetting process that everyone goes through.

“Long story short, because it was a long story. I had a few hiccups there along the way, but then it all became official and I loved that I was able to do it on the first season back in a tropical paradise.

Law will be one of 24 contestants in Samoa competing for the title of sole Survivor. This year’s season will see 12 villains and 12 heroes playing on opposing teams. Some of the heroes and villains are previous contestants and some are TV stars and celebrities.

Survivor Australia host Jonathan LaPaglia has revealed that he – along with a number of other cast members – was struck down with COVID on the last day of filming the season.
