Huge moves are being made by Sydney producer Moonbase (formerly Moonbase Commander), with the news that his new collab with Grammy-nominated rapper Anderson .Paak has made it to Hollywood.

The track has just featured in the global trailer for nothing less than the latest Fast and Furious flick, the soon-to-be-released The Fate of the Furious, and it’s guaranteed to give his career a massive, nitrous-fuelled boost.

The pounding beats are definitely a perfect match for the vehicular insanity that unfolds in these films and, with an international tour coming in a couple of months, the stars have aligned for Moonbase – quite literally, as the film boasts names like Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren among the usual cast of Vin Diesel and Co.

“He’s amazing,” Moonbase says of .Paak, with the two having collaborated online for the breakout hit. “Usually with collaborations you’re expected to workshop beats to get it to a place you’re both happy with, and see how the song develops. But with Anderson, it was a very clear vision from both ends.”

Moonbase feels that the track is “more abrasive and left-of-centre” than the rapper’s usual work, which no doubt made it the perfect pick for the trailer. “He did a great job of pairing up his vibe with my beat. I think they really complement each other.”

Hopefully the trailer draws a few people to Moonbase’s upcoming showcase at the massive SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas this week, as well as to the cinema.
