Ah, good. Sydney has ordered a bunch of ferries that can’t pass under bridges along Paramatta River if there are commuters riding up top.

The new River Class ferries are set to join the NSW transport canon later this year, traversing along Parra River and the inner harbour routes.

Unfortunately these new boats, which were controversially purchased in Indonesia, will require commuters on the top deck to gap it down under before the boat can travel under the Camellia Railway Bridge and the Gasworks Bridge near Parramatta due to low clearance levels.

It is a good thing I moved out of the Western Suburbs long ago because I would’ve certainly met a Final Destination-like fate after a few too many at The Albion.

A spokesperson for Transport for NSW has emphasised that the ferries are not the first to require removing people from the top section whilst travelling the Parramatta River.

“The process of customers moving to the lower deck between Rydalmere and Parramatta [one stop] is already in place for the existing fleet of charter vessels currently used by Transdev Sydney Ferries,” they said.

“These charter vessels have a viewing deck, while other vessels used by Transdev Sydney Ferries on the Parramatta River do not.”

In a truly incredible clapback, NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance has told those that have criticised the purchase of the ferries to, and I quote, “take a chill pill.”
