Australian actress Tammin Sursok has taken to Instagram to ask her followers their thoughts after she was slapped with lost demerit points and a $300 fine for speeding.
The 38-year-old shared a photo of her ticket on Instagram and revealed that she was caught driving 58 km/hr in a 50km zone. Over a series of stories, Sursok said that she felt the penalty was “excessive” and suggested that there should be some more “leniency”.
The ‘Pretty Little Liars’ actress said that she was coming off the freeway into an area with a slower speed limit, and “didn’t want to slam on [the] breaks because of safety”.
In the first IG story about the incident, Sursok – who has spent a lot of her time in the states – wrote, “Got a driving ticket from Australia. I drove 58km in a 50km [zone]. $300 and loss of points. I mean… thoughts?”
Sursok followed up the original post with additional stories explaining that she values the importance of safe driving.
“I like rules. Happy to pay fines. I think it’s important to drive safely.” she wrote. “I find loss of points excessive especially when it was 70 on the highway straight to a 50 and I didn’t want to slam on my breaks because… safety.”

In a follow-up post, the actress added that she had received a “few aggressive” replies to her story about the traffic fine.
“Almost a thousand replies, I love to hear people’s opinions. Few aggressive ones. Not necessary. Opening up conversation is important. We can debate without being nasty,” she wrote.
The former Home and Away actress went on to list a number of points that she wanted to address, including whether there should be “leniency when coming off highways” as well as “what is reasonable”.
