Youtuber and inventor of shitty robots Simone Giertz just beat Tesla giant Elon Musk at his own game. Giertz has offered her own interpretation of the highly-anticipated Tesla pickup truck.
Last year, Simone Giertz tweeted Elon Musk, inquiring about the possibility of a Tesla pickup truck. Unfortunately, she heard nothing back. Instead of doing what literally everyone else on the face of the earth would do and wait around for Musk to unveil his plans, Giertz decided to make a pickup truck of her own.
All I want is an electric pickup truck. Do I:
A. Write Santa
B. Ping @elonmusk
C. Put a sled behind Cheese Louise and only drive at walking speed pic.twitter.com/DMtCFIa7kW— Simone Giertz (@SimoneGiertz) July 12, 2018
After a year of planning and design drafts, Giertz bought a brand new Tesla Model 3 and began building the bougiest ute this world has ever seen. Giertz built the ute in collaboration with Marcos Ramirez, a Bay Area mechanic and artist; Richard Benoit, a Youtuber who dedicates his time to modifying pre-owned Tesla models, and German designer and Youtuber Laura Kampf.
Together, the four minds did the unthinkable: dissected and disassembled a brand new Tesla. “I really hope that people don’t just think of this as an obnoxious YouTuber cutting up a brand new car” Giertz shared. “This process has destructive steps but the end goal is constructive. And I’m doing it because I really, really want this car. This is truly my dream car.”
The car, which Giertz has affectionally called ‘Truckla’, features a 4’ bed, a custom built lumber rack, and a 110V power outlet. Finished off with three chic Hella Lights mounted on a lumber rack. It’s certainly a brash beauty. “I honestly thought it was going to become a really ugly truck, and I was ok with that because I wanted it for the functionality, not for the looks. But it’s so much better looking than I would ever have hoped for.”

Giertz is renowned for building shitty robots —think machines that do a really awful job of feeding you cereal à la Wallace & Gromit. This latest project has truly seen the 28-year-old mastermind flex her inventing chops. With the Simone Giertz Tesla pickup truck, the history of electric vehicles has been changed forever.
“My goal is to never own a gas car. I’m a part of a new generation of drivers that will only drive electric. I feel like I should pad this a little bit, but I’m not going to. Fuck oil companies. Seriously, fuck them.”
