Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz both got a shock when their latest interviewer on the press tour for The Batman was a vtuber.

The countless interviews that have been taking place for cinema’s latest mega hit The Batman, would be getting dire on the stars. But, Vtuber La+ Darkness is keeping it fresh by appearing in animated form.

A clear surprise to The Bat and The Cat, you can observe their initial confusion before resuming interview mode.

“It’s really good make-up,” jokes Pattinson. “I love it” follows Kravitz.

For the uninitiated (me), a Vtuber or Virtual Youtuber is much like any streamer or online entertainer, but keeps their physical appearance a secret by appearing as an animated avatar.

Using motion-capture, the avatar moves and speaks in a similar fashion to the actual person.

Emerging from a trend in Japan, Vtubers are popping up all around the world and are now breaking into the mainstream media.

Though slightly odd, it’s understandable La+ Darkness would want to interview the pair, with the film opening to raving reviews and being compared to the quality of The Dark Knight.

According to Variety, The Batman opened to $128.5 million at the US box office making it the biggest debut in 2022 and the second to open higher than one million since the start of the pandemic.

Off the back of its success, two spin-off series are heading to HBO Max and Binge. One will follow The Penguin (Colin Ferrel) and his rise to power in the criminal underworld. The other will follow the police in Gotham and will have heavy ties to Arkham Asylum.

Other DC properties haven’t been as lucky, with The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom pushed back into 2023. However, fans can still expect to see Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods later in the year.
