I don’t know about you, random reader, but I’ve spent the vast majority of the past year at home. Most of the stuff I’d normally be doing out in the big wide world (working, socialising, making fun of JK Rowling, etc) I’ve had to do behind closed doors thanks to… Well, you know why. Anywho, given that we’re doing everything virtually now it’s more important than ever to make sure our home tech is up to scratch. Luckily for you there’s an idiot at The Brag who knows all about tech. Here’s the best tech to make your life indoors more bearable.

Amazon Fire TV Stick – $69 (nice)

Probably the easiest way to stream TV shows on any TV. All of you’ve gotta do is plug it into your TV’s HDMI port and away you go! The Fire TV stick supports Prime Video (of course), Netflix, YouTube, Stan, Disney+, Apple TV, Spotify and more.

Nintendo Switch – $448

The Switch is a great console for pretty much anyone and everyone. You can hook it up to the TV and use it like a traditional console or undock it and play games anywhere you want. Games like Mario Cart, Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing and Pokemon Sword/Shield are great games that people of any age can enjoy while Assassin’s Creed: the Rebel Collection, Skyrim and Bioshock are great choices for older gamers.

An extra long phone charging cable – $15

You don’t realise how good a long phone charging cable is until you get one. You can charge your phone and keep using it without needing to awkwardly park up right next to a power outlet or USB port. The link of got above is for the cultured folks of the future with USB C ports, but here’s some links for those of you still slumming it on lightning or micro USB.

Shure Aonic 50 Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones – $599

When lockdown started my neighbours decided it would be a great idea to start randomly drilling things at all of hours of the day, I don’t know what they’re drilling but whatever it is there’s clearly a lot of it because they just keep going. These headphones have been the only thing stopping me from having a full-blown meltdown on work’s weekly Zoom meeting, their active noise cancelling has been an absolute godsend and their sound quality is the best I’ve ever experienced. If you like music as well as peace and quiet I would highly recommend these.

Samsung 27″ Computer Monitor- $299

Sure, sex is cool, but have you ever used two screens when working? It’s on another level.

Plug your laptop into this bad boy and all of a sudden you have double the space to organize all of those windows you’ve got open. Want to have your inbox open for checking and a spreadsheet open for editing at the same time? Easy. Want to watch The X-Files while writing a listicle? Totally possible (not that I would know, I’m a diligent and focused employee…).

This one is full HD, slightly curved to aid readability across the screen and works with Windows and Mac computers (laptop or desktop).

Logitech MX Master 3 Wireless Mouse – $150

You want the best tech? Well This is pretty much the best mouse money can buy. It works with Windows, Mac, Android and Chrome OS, connects instantly via either Bluetooth or USB, is comfortable to use for long periods of time, has 6 buttons, two scrolls wheels and incredibly powerful software that lets you customize what each button does based on what application you’re using. The way I have mine set up means that without even touching my keyboard I can swap between browser tabs, close and reopen browser tabs, swap between virtual desktops, adjust the size of my brush in Photoshop, Zoom in and out on my Premiere timeline, adjust my volume in Spotify… I could go on. Long story short this thing makes the menial tasks we all do on our computers, quick, easy and comfortable, it’s life changing.
