Countless political heavyweights, celebrities and media commentators have paid tribute to retiring radio presenter Alan Jones, and now The Chaser have paid their dues with their own special tribute.

Jones recently announced his retirement from the 2GB Breakfast show, after spending 35 years on the airwaves and winning 226 radio surveys. The divisive jock was called “an incredible man” by Russell Crowe, while former PM Tony Abbot bemoaned “the end of an era” as Jones departs radio.

It was an opportunity too good to be missed for The Chaser, whose public feud with Jones peaked in 2018 when they posted his phone number on the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

The comedy troupe put together a beautiful audio package on their recently launched NOVA Entertainment podcast The Chaser Report. The package pulled from some of Jones’ best ever on-air blow-ups.

Highlights include his angry rants, misogynistic bullshit towards Clover More, Julia Gillard and Jacinda Ardern, and of course, his prolific use of the f-word.

“Alan Jones, you were always the gentleman… A delight to work with… You were a ray of sunshine, a people person, kind to all.”

The Chaser weren’t the only ones not about to have a final word amid news of Jones’ partial departure from the public spotlight (he will continue his TV commitments with Sky).

ABC TV’s The Weekly, hosted by Charlie Pickering, also put together a tribute package that brought together some of the highlights of his television career.

“What will Australia do without Jones?” asked Pickering. “Who else could use the airwaves to fan the flames of a race riot? You don’t get that from Dickie Wilkins!

“As we say goodbye to one of Australia’s greatest broadcasters who most of us only listen to in the back of a taxi from the airport thinking ‘steady on mate, that’s a bit full-on’, we pay tribute to Alan Jones.”
