A brand new trailer for the musical fantasy film, Cats, has dropped with a star-studded cast, and something about it looks far from purr-fect.

The film is based on the musical of the same name, which itself was based on T.S. Eliot’s ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’.

The trailer has dropped seemingly out of nowhere with a slated release for December this year.

And the cast really is something to behold, with the movie starring Taylor Swift’s in her first film role, Jennifer Hudson, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, James Corden, Jason Derulo and Rebel Wilson.

Be sure to check out the trailer below:

The sheer enormity of this cast is sure to bring in some casual moviegoers and avid Cats fans alike, but has definitely deterred some.

As you can disturbingly see in the trailer, the film uses the real faces of actors alongside computer-generated fur to create their bodies creating somewhat of an Uncanny Valley effect.

The trailer has received some mixed reception upon releasing and has some fans excited and others wholly concerned.

#Cats has already begun trending on Twitter along with the likes of James Corden, Rebel Wilson, and other celebrities. With the face-tech being under scrutiny, here are the best reactions from Twitter so far:

This is the first movie adaption of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit stage musical ‘Cats’ and will add to the list of movies adapted from musicals such as Les Misérables.

Taylor Swift has even taken to Twitter to hype up the movie, posting:

Obviously, the stars of the film are looking forward to this film but now it’s up to the audience. It’ll be exciting to see what kind of reception this movie gets.

Already the YouTube trailer has just under 1 Million views with 21 thousand likes and 24 thousand dislikes.

Will this film be the cat’s meow or just a waste of one of our nine lives?
