The American version of The Office had some unforgettable cold opens – here’s to you, Stress Relief – but none captured the awkward tragicomedy of the series better than the sequence with Kevin’s Famous Chilli.
It’s hilarious in its simplicity: poor Kevin describes in a genuinely sincere voiceover the recipe for his family’s chilli; as this is happening, we see the lumbering accountant battle to carry a huge pot filled with the chilli into the Dunder Mifflin office, full of excitement to share his gruelling work, only to drop the entire contents of the pot all over the floor. Physical comedy that would have made Chris Farley or Melissa McCarthy proud ensues.
Fans of The Office have wondered for years just how good Kevin’s Famous Chilli possibly could have been – the trick, according to Kevin, is to “undercook the onions.”
And now, thanks to an eagle-eyed TikToker, we have an answer. The recipe, it turns out, is strangely included in Peacock’s lengthy terms and conditions text. McKenzie Floyd and her boyfriend noticed it and posted the revelation to TikTok.
“Why was it necessary to put on here?” Floyd asks bemusedly, before noting that the terms and conditions immediately return to normal after the inclusion of the chilli recipe.

Is it because no one ever reads these?? 😂 @Peacock TV
Fair play to Peacock, though, because they’ve really committed to the bit. The recipe has lots of ingredients, including dried ancho chiles and petite diced tomatoes, and lots of steps to follow (including, of course, to undercook those pesky onions).
You can view the full recipe here if you fancy recreating the iconic meal and go one better by actually serving the chilli to your friends unlike poor Kevin. Anyway, I’ll be right back, just going to check every terms and conditions I’ve ignored incase there are other pop culture gems hidden in wait.
