Somehow, in the middle of the very real sexual revolution happening right now, we have completely overlooked the fact that one of the judges on light-hearted, family-friendly, talent search show The Voice Australia, is a convicted violent sex criminal.

“You know that Delta’s the Princess of Australia, you know that,” Boy George quipped last night, in a cheeky comment that has made headlines this morning. “But I’m famous all over the world.”

He certainly is. However, what has been largely forgotten is that in January, 2009, he was sentenced to 15 months in jail for falsely imprisoning a male escort, who he shackled to a wall and beat with a metal chain.

Here is a quote from the sentencing judge:

“Whilst I accept that Mr Carlsen’s physical injuries were not serious or permanent, in my view there can be no doubt that your premeditated, callous and humiliating hand-cuffing and detention of Mr Carlsen shocked, degraded and traumatised [him].”

The judge deemed the crime “so serious that only an immediate sentence of imprisonment can be justified” and added the man was “deprived of his liberty and his human dignity”.
