Instagram is usually just a messy hodgepodge of influencers and meme accounts, but sometimes a handy little page presents itself.

A new Instagram account, @bondi_lines, has popped up, and it’s devoted to providing live updates of how long queues are for COVID-19 testing around Sydney. With waiting times stretching to as long as 3-4 hours in the city, that’s a very handy account to make use of indeed. The lines at testing clinics aren’t expected to get any quieter in the sunup to the new year either.

Incredibly, @bondi_lines started life providing updates on nightclub queues but in the time of COVID, needs must, even for clubbers. So during the day, the account sources the latest information on COVID testing queues around Sydney for its followers, before transforming into nightclub news in the evening (please don’t take that as permission to get a COVID test and then head on a night out immediately afterwards).

The COVID testing information is nicely displayed too, with wait time, location, and whether the clinic is still administering tests being shown. “We are three good mates taking a bender idea too far,” Bondi Lines told Pedestrian TV.

We hated waiting in lines and not knowing what venues were pumping before going out. We figured that people must feel the same. We initially didn’t plan for COVID lines. A lot of our followers were told they were close contacts and sent in the COVID line updates they were in. After three to four requests, we obliged.”

Currently the account’s knowledge mainly focuses on the local Bondi area, but they’re also providing information for other Sydney areas such as Parramatta, Ryde, Manly, Penrith, and Rose Bay. Here’s hoping that a similar service pops up for Melbourne and other Aussie cities soon because the waiting times aren’t any better elsewhere.
