When The Chaser gets it right, they get it so right, and the comedy stalwarts have delivered a side-splitting new sketch that tackles contact tracing in the time of TikTok.
Penned by the brilliant Bec Shaw and Nina Oyama, Contact Tracys, sees two zoomers — The Traceys — who are enlisted by the government to assist with contact tracing using their god-given social media finesse.
Starring Freudian Nip icons Jenna Owens and Victoria Zerbst as our beloved, albeit terrifying, protagonists, this Chaser sketch is a truly brilliant snapshot of 2020.
We don’t want to spoil it for you, but you’re in for a brilliant dissection of the governments COVIDSafe app, zoomer culture, TikTok and VSCO-girl slang. It’s criminally funny, and will also make you feel so completely out of touch with everything. Though I’d love to consider myself a Tracey, I’ve now realised I’m more spiritually aligned with their “simp” handlers.
The sketch was penned as part of The Chaser’s War on 2020 Livestream which took place over Friday and Saturday last week. The event saw some of the finest names in the Australian comedy circuit join forces on a number of succulent sketches poking fun of this shoddy excuse for a year.
It didn’t take long for the clip to reach Twitter virality. It even copped a nod from Aotearoa’s darling director, Taika Waititi.
Oh my god it’s the high five for me https://t.co/cjTuji96c6

The Chaser’s War on 2020 also saw legendary film critics David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz reunite for a special edition of At The Movies.
Together, they delivered an unflinching review of the cesspool that was 2020. To which David so succinctly described as being “an aging despot with deteriorating mental health refuses to engage with a global pandemic and overboiling racial tensions, while people are forced to stay home to watch a documentary on big cat game parks.”
We asked Margaret & David – Australia’s most-loved reviewers – to review ‘2020’. As usual they disagreed. #WarOn2020 pic.twitter.com/GVhzquGKQE

God bless The Chaser and everyone involved.
