At one point or another, usually in a drunken haze, we’ve all thought about how cool it would be to own a bar.

If you’ve ever actually tried to put the plan into place, however, you’ll have realised that starting a bar is ridiculously expensive. You can’t just buy a few bottles of alcohol and let the fun times commence.

Hard Rubbish Bar in Melbourne has other ideas. As per Time Out, the Preston watering hole is putting their bar up for grabs for free. Yes, absolutely free.

And there’s no catch whatsoever. After seven years, Hard Rubbish’s owners are ready to give their bar away after discovering they wouldn’t make any money working with a broker after paying fees.

That’s why they launched Giving Away Hardo website, and anyone’s welcome to apply. Simply send a proposal via email explaining why you deserve Hard Rubbish, your vision for the bar, and what you plan to do with it moving forward. You’re also allowed to get creative, so no dull powerpoints are necessary.

If you already own several other venues, or plan to turn Hard Rubbish into a pretentious wine bar, you need not apply. Good intentions only! The owners are also keen to hear from previous patrons of the bar, or anyone young and passionate about improving the place in the future.

If you fancy turning dreams into reality, you must apply by October 15th. Shortlisted proposals will then be shown to locals at a Q&A night the following month. Find all the other details you need to know here.
