The much-discussed scripted series starring Nicolas Cage as Joe Exotic from Tiger King has finally found a home at Amazon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the CBS Television Studios project has been greenlit and is in development for Prime Video.

The adaptation will apparently focus on Joe Exotic’s iconic and bitter feuds with Carole Baskin and Jeff Lowe, now infamous through the Netflix series literally everyone watched at the start of lockdown, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.

According to THR, the series will “live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.”
If any actor is capable of capturing the chaos and craziness of Exotic‘s existence, it’s the man of a thousand wide-eyed memes, Nicolas Cage.
It was first reported back in May that the Hollywood icon would be stepping into Exotic’s shoes and that the adaptation would focus on the Leif Reigstad Texas Monthly article about the Tiger King, titled Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild by Leif Reigstad.

There’s great pedigree behind the show too. Dan Lagana will serve as showrunner and he already has a Netflix smash hit behind him. His unexpected 2017 mockumentary American Vandal was one of the funniest series to emerge on the streaming platform in years. Trust us.

This isn’t the only Tiger King adaptation in the works either. In another inspired casting choice, Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon is set to play Carole Baskin in a limited series based on Wondery’s Joe Exotic podcast. In August, that show was ordered to series by NBC Universal.

We’ll be watching both shows to see how they turn out. Cage versus McKinnon. Exotic versus Baskin. Again. It’ll be an almighty contest that’s for sure.
