Golfer Tiger Woods has sustained multiple leg injuries after a single-vehicle car crash in California, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirms.

The crash at around 7:15 am on Tuesday (local time), off the side of Hawthorne Boulevard, a major road through the Palos Verdes Peninsula of Los Angeles. The SUV Genesis GV8O reportedly rolled multiple times off the road before coming to a stop on its side. Woods was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The vehicle sustained considerable damage and firefighters and paramedics removed Woods from the wreckage with the “jaws of life.”

“On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Ranchos Palos Verdes,” the official police statement read.

“The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage.

“The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods,” officials confirmed.

“Mr. Woods was extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.”

In a statement, Wood’s manager Mark Steinberg confirmed that the golf superstar sustained multiple leg injuries and was undergoing surgery.

“Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support,” Mr Steinberg confirmed.

Tiger Woods was in Los Angeles for the weekend to host a tournament at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera. He was set to spend Monday and Tuesday filming with GOLFTV, with whom he has an endorsement contract.

This marks the third time Woods has been involved in a car incident.

The first took place in November 2019 following Thanksgiving. Woods SUV ran over a fire hydrant and hit a tree.

Then in May 2017, Woods was found asleep behind the wheel of a parked car on the side of the road. He was arrested on a DUI charge, claiming that he experienced an unexpected reaction to prescription medicine for his back pain. Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
