Time and time again, tobacco consumers jump online, taking issue at any number of problems the general population doesn’t face.

Whether it’s the ever rising price of tobacco products, or the issues around plain package, there’s something new all the time. Now, one social media user has taken to Facebook to vent his own tobacco-related frustrations. In a Facebook group titled Rate My Rollie, where users post photos and videos, and tobacco related news, the user took to the group to announce his grief.

After taking on some careful observation, the user, who goes under the name ‘Will Ryan’, has discovered that his tobacco pouch weight a little bit less than it should have.

“Just something interesting I discovered, the e next to the weight of your tobacco means that the weight is not accurate but an average,” his post reads. That “e” he was talking about refers to the ℮ symbol. According to Wikipedia, that symbol means the weight in question is an average value.

If, for example, a package containing apples is weighed at 1 kilogram with the ℮ next to it, then that means based on the amount of apples in that package, it should weigh 1 kilogram. But, that’s not always the case, as some apples differ in sizes from one to the next. Old mate Will Ryan then continued to rant in his post: “This 25g pouch pictured weighed 23.61 grams before any tobacco had been taken out,”

Read Will Ryan’s Facebook rant:

He continues, “So not only are the government making us pay ridiculous amounts of money for our cigarettes, but they’re also ripping us off. What a joke.”

Well, my friend. Unfortunately, this is well within regulation and the law. This very symbol means that tobacco sellers are well within their right to estimate the weight of their products, even if they are the odd one-to-two grams off.
