Tomorrow will see the opening of a world first Uncle Tobys Oats Energy Exchange Cafe. For three days, Sydney residents can head along to the cafe in Chippendale from Tuesday and receive a free meal. All you have to do is show the staff how many steps you took the previous day, and they’ll sort you out with a free meal and free coffee.
The cafe is being opened by the dreamy Tim Robards, and whilst there’s no promises he will be shirtless, a press release suggests you can ask nicely and see what happens. The cafe was inspired by a study commissioned by the Uncle Tobys Oats team which revealed that 59% of NSW residents agreed they could do with more energy to expend throughout the day.
When you arrive at the cafe and show how many steps you took the previous day, you’ll be given a bunch of choices of meals relating to that number. Every meal comes with a free coffee, and the food looks nothing like the classic microwavable oats sachets we all know and love.

Joining Tim to promote the cafe is Olympic swimmer Bronte Campbell who will be offering energy and exercise tips to people at the cafe. On the menu, Robards said “Oats are not only a great source of energy, they are also fantastically versatile when it comes to cooking. The menu created for the Uncle Tobys Oats Energy Exchange Cafe brings them to life in a different way, from savoury turmeric oats to blue algae smoothie bowls, the options are endless.”
