Last week, we received the official confirmation that the Spice Girls are set to reunite this year. Naturally, the world of music media went wild speculating on where and when the legendary five-piece are set to tour. However, it seems that this talk of touring was all a bit too premature, according to Victoria Beckham.
“The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together,” the Spice Girls shared last week in a joint statement, confirming their new reunion.
“We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of the Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.”
Soon after this announcement, gossip website TMZ reported that a source revealed the group were planning to tour the UK and United States, with former manager Simon Fuller spearheading the tour organisations. Needless to say, this is all too good to be true.
Speaking to Vogue, Victoria Beckham (aka, Posh Spice) revealed that the plans of touring were completely fabricated. “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour,” she explained.
Rather, Beckham stated that the remainder of the group were brainstorming just what their reunion would mean in the grand scheme of things.
“There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for,” Beckham continued. “What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming.”
So maybe Posh Spice is just being a bit coy and this is all part of some elaborate marketing campaign to raise excitement levels when that reunion tour is eventually revealed, or maybe she’s telling the truth and we’ve all just had our collective hopes and dreams crushed. Either way, we’re still keen to see what this reunion will exactly entail.
