Paul McCartney and his late great mate John Lennon (the glasses one) have been banging on about peace since the ’60s, and despite having by far the loudest microphone during that era, it seems nobody listened to their message. At least not enough people did.

To quote Don McLean’s heartbreaking song ‘Vincent’. “They would not listen, they’re not listening still. Perhaps they never will.”

Following last weekend’s horrible massacre in Las Vegas, Paul McCartney again stressed the importance of giving peace a chance, leading thousands of Detroit fans in a singalong of John Lennon’s timeless 1969 anthem “Give Peace A Chance” (Okay, so the “bagism, shagism, dragism, madism, ragism, tagism” part isn’t so timeless, but the central tenet is, so shuddup.)

It seems simple, because it is. All we are saying is give peace a chance. That’s all.

To quote ‘Vincent’ again: “They would not listen, they did not know how. Perhaps they’ll listen now.”
