We already know that thanks to nostalgia-hungry millennials, we’ll be getting a Space Jam re-boot sometime in the near future. But today, Tony Hawk reminded us of an alternate reality that could have been oh so sweet.

In a tweet, Hawk revealed that back in 2003 Warner Brothers approached the skating superstar with the proposition of a skating-themed Space Jam spin-off, deliciously called…Skate Jam.

With a title that good, it boggles the mind how totally radical the film would have been.

So what happened to this dream of a movie? Looney Toons: Back In Action happened.

“They were bringing back Looney Tunes with Back In Action and then wanted to start on my project immediately. A week later Back In Action bombed and Skate Jam was shelved forever,” explained Hawk.

We’re the last people to rag on Brendan Fraser (the then blockbuster star of Loony Toons: BIA) because he is a sweet, kind man that should be protected.

The film absolutely bombed at the box office, making only $68 million on a $80 million budget. It also messed up the glorious run of excellent films that Looney Toons had going for it with Space Jam and before that the Granddaddy of all toon/live action hybrid films Who Framed Rodger Rabbit?

So instead of getting to see Bugs Bunny pop a sick ollie or the Tasmanian Devil perfect his tic tacs, we’re stuck in this darker reality with only this sketch to keep us warm.

Damn you, Brendan Fraser*.
