There are a few elements you need in place in order to take out the Eurovision Song Content.

A) Lyrics about trying, rising, and/or perseverance.

and/or:

a wildly positive, optimistic message of universal love, specific love; the type of love that can be compared to one or more of the elements.

Bonus points are given for both.

The other two elements are: B) A huge vocal performance, and C) It needs to be the type of ballad that could be conceivably cover on X-Factor, Glee or Tina Arena’s next album.

“Don’t give up, ‘cos we got love”, sings Jess in her Eurovision 2018 song, a soaring ballad released this morning which easily covers the above criteria and much more. The song was co-written by Jess and Sony’s inhouse team DNA Songs.

DNA also wrote Dami Im’s ‘Sound of Silence’, which you may remember came in second place last year – a great achievement for our proud European nation.

Here’s Jess talking humbly about the competition, leaving out the fact she has this thing in the bag.

“I love the Eurovision Song Contest. I have since I was a little girl watching it with the family in Darwin.

“I wanted to write a song that captured that instinctive sense of joy of how a great song can change the darkest of moods into happiness. ‘We Got Love’ is also about how music can lift the human spirit. You can always rise above in the hardest times with something as simple as a great song.

“Eurovision, to me, is people brought together through a real love of music and all the joy that music can bring. I can’t wait to perform this song live in Portugal and see it connect with a global audience at such a special time.”

Eurovision airs on SBS from May 9 to 13.
