Potts Point is a nerve-centre for the dead-eyed, underslept and overworked. I hate to buy into the she-eh-oh “but first, coffee” schtick, but I’m afraid I’d simply pass away without it.

So in the spirit of leaning into an existence hurtling at breakneck speed towards burnout. Surviving precariously, and barely, off caffeinated stimulant, I’ve made it my civic duty to put together a list of the best coffee joints in Potts Point.

Primary Coffee Roasters

1/9 Ward Avenue Potts Point 2011

If you have a hankering to put on your finest Williamsburg-core GORE-TEX and stand around, looking strategically aloof, Primary Coffee Roasters is your Met Gala. It’s quite possibly the most beautiful cafe in Sydney. It feels like you’re walking into a perfectly curated wabi-sabi Pinterest board. The coffee is also sublime.

Room Ten

10 Llankelly Place Potts Point 2011

Home of my favourite breakfast in Potts Point — the Meditteranean special. Room Ten is a petite little café that runs out into Llankelly Place. Despicably good breakfast fare is served all day and the coffee is a real delight. Great spot for people watching too.

Coffee Tea and Me

87C Macleay Street, Potts Point

If you’re feeling like a regular Sandy Cohen and are craving the creature comfort of a perfectly schmeared bagel and a coffee, Coffee Tea and Me is your best bet.

Smalls Deli

166 Victoria St, Potts Point NSW 2011

One of the most satisfying earthly delights is picking up a sambo and a coffee from Smalls Deli — with a side of pickles of course. And heading to one of the many sumptuous green areas Potts Point has on offer. Koi fish park and an egg salad sandwich? Bliss.

Joseph Hyde

34 Llankelly Place Potts Point 2011

Another Llankelly Place institution. Joseph Hyde offers a more opulent breakfast. If you’re feeling freaky on a Friday, pick a table in the sun and graduate from a soy latte to a gorgeous sparkling from their fantastic wine list, bliss.

Piccolo Bar

6 Roslyn St, Potts Point NSW 2011

As The Castle so succinctly put it, it’s the vibe of the thing. Piccolo Bar still possesses the old school charm of Potts Point’s glory days. It’s a great place just to sit and let locals chew your ear off, if you’re into that thing. If Vito is there, make sure to ask him for film recommendations.

Junnys

107 Darlinghurst Rd, Potts Point NSW 2011

If you don’t have time to lounge around Potts Point like a bohemian layabout, and unfortunately are forced to suffer the fate of trekking it to the god awful CBD, getting a quick coffee from Junnys is certain to be the highlight of your day. It’s a little slice of utopia amid the manic energy of Kings Cross station.
