“Why we need to use more energy, not less”: that might initially sound like a contradictory statement, when compared to what we’re used to hearing in the news, but Cleo Abram wants to change that.

The accomplished video producer, alongside her former Vox colleague Matt Yglesias, has made a fascinating new video explaining why the way to get people to work toward clean energy is through hope and ambition.

Abram argues that climate communication is usually done through fear and desperation – what she terms “the stick” – and that it’s time to talk about “the carrot”.

“As renewable energy continues to get cheaper, as more and more clean energy technologies become more viable, we have an opportunity to look ahead toward a better future,” Abram insists.

Watch the video below and discover why we’re thinking about energy wrong, and why everyone needs more of it.
