On Sunday evening, HBO aired the first episode of, Allen V. Farrow, a four-part investigation delving into Dylan Farrow’s decades-old sexual abuse allegations against her adoptive father, director Woody Allen.

Dylan Farrow first accused Woody Allen of sexually assaulting her at the family’s Connecticut home on August 4th, 1992 — when she was 7 years old. Months prior to the accusations, Allen’s then-partner and creative collaborator actress Mia Farrow discovered naked photos of her then college-age adoptive daughter Soon-Yi Previn in Allen’s apartment.

Woody Allen has adamantly denied the alleged abuse, claiming that Mia Farrow coached Dylan to make the accusations after discovering the photos of Soon-Yi Previn.

The documentary centres around Dylan Farrow’s experience publicly accusing Allen of abuse, examining details of the case that have remained out of the public eye. It also explores Allen’s relationship with Previn, who he married in 1997.

Following the premiere of the documentary, Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn shared a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter, slamming the documentary as a “shoddy hit piece.”

“These documentarians had no interest in the truth,” the statement said. “Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their enablers to put together a hatchet job riddled with falsehoods.”

The statement continued, “Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and given only a matter of days ‘to respond. Of course, they declined to do so.”

“As has been known for decades, these allegations are categorically false. Multiple agencies investigated them at the time and found that, whatever Dylan Farrow may have been led to believe, absolutely no abuse had ever taken place.”

The statement went on to direct criticism against Farrow’s and Allen’s son, journalist Ronan Farrow — who’s Harvey Weinstein exposé acted as a catalyst to the #MeToo movement.

“It is sadly unsurprising that the network to air this is HBO – which has a standing production deal and business relationship with Ronan Farrow. While this shoddy hit piece may gain attention, it does not change the facts.”
