The prestigious World Press Photo exhibition will return to the NSW State Library on its tour this year.

The 58th annual World Press Photo Contest had 97,912 submissions from 5,692 press photographers, photojournalists, and documentary photographers from 131 different countries. From these, 200 images were chosen as winners and will be on display during the exhibition.

The World Press Photo of the Year 2014 was awarded to Danish photographer Mads Nissen, for his image of a gay couple sharing an intimate moment in St Petersburg, Russia.

The exhibition provides a unique snapshot of the significant events and issues of the year and presents them side by side.

The World Press Photo exhibition will be on display at the NSW State Library from Saturday May 23 – Saturday June 21.
