If you’re an Xbox fan, there’s plenty of news to come out of the Xbox Gamescom Showcase, but we’ve highlighted the three biggest headlines.
In the wee hours of the morning Xbox hosted a showcase for Gamescom 2021, and while most of the event was admittedly a bit of a fizzer, there were a few highlights. Here are the top 3:
1. Xbox Cloud Gaming will allow Xbox One Owners to play Xbox Series X games
While Xbox has been trying to roll out its cloud gaming service for a while now, this latest announcement is a game changer. Simply put, if you own an Xbox One system, you’ll eventually be able to use that system to stream brand new Xbox Series X games that the old hardware would probably blow up trying to run successfully.
It’s a pretty major development that could help alleviate the constant stock shortages of the Series X that are plaguing much of the world, and help out those who can’t afford an upgrade just yet.
The big caveat to this though is that there are no announced plans for the service in Australia. It’s a real kick in the pants and is almost certainly the fault of our mediocre NBN speeds.
Maybe one day?
2. Forza Horizon 5 might be the prettiest racing game ever
With an opener that looks as though it was ripped straight out of a Fast and Furious movie, Forza Horizon 5 is an absolute bloody looker. For this latest entry in the series, you’ll be speeding -through a number of Mexican landscapes filled with jungles, beaches and yes, even flamingos.

Plus if you’re a bit of a lead head, Xbox has just revealed the cover cars for the game – the Mercedes-AMG ONE, and the 2021 Ford Bronco Badlands. Both should help offer up some truly distinct experiences.

3. There’s a funky new controller coming
Speaking of Forza, Xbox also went on to announce a brand new variant in its ever-expanding controller line-up, inspired by the upcoming racer. The Xbox Wireless Controller – Forza Horizon 5 Limited Edition features splashes of hot pink and bright blue and is backed up by an interesting transparent yellow finish that lets you see straight through to the controller’s guts.
Honestly this thing gives us flashbacks of all those see-through N64 controllers and Game Boys from the ‘90s and we are all about it.
You can currently pre-order one via the Microsoft store for $99.95. It releases on November 9 alongside Forza Horizon 5.
Sadly we’re still waiting on a Halo Infinite release date. But with news our own ratings board leaked the game’s launch, we’re holding out hope.
