In case you missed it, there is officially a petition to make the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game an Olympic Sport. And it’s gained a tonne of traction.
As per HYPEBEAST, the petition was created by a YouTuber by the name of Xiran Jay Zhao, who deems that is an “absolute injustice” that the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game is not a “legitimate sport in the Olympics”.
The petition’s description reads, “It is an absolute injustice that the game of Yugioh: The Trading Card Game is not a legitimate sport in the Olympics. The playing of Yugioh requires dexterity (when drawing the cards), athleticism (when playing the cards), and endurance (when you’re in round 10 of a YCS).”
Also in the petition’s description, not only does it call for the card game to be recognised as a sport by the Olympics, the petition is also asking for the Olympic Committee to apologise to Japan for making the country host the games without the iconic card game.
They wrote, “I now call on the International Olympic Committee to add Yugioh as an official Olympic sport to both mend this injustice and to apologize to Japan for making them go through with the 2020 Tokyo games.”
Right now, the petition boasts a total of 9,060 signatures, with its current goal being to reach 10,000.
Its signature collection goal was recently boosted from 5,000 to 10,000, after smashing that initial goal by a long shot.
Will it get the attention of the Olympic Committee?
