World renowned American artist Matt Mullican is bringing his original performance under hypnosis to Sydney audiences.

Since the ’70s, Mullican has used his brand of visual arts toinvestigate the human relationship with the world of images, questioning how we establish meaning and how symbols serve as representations of identity.

Mullican’s most famous performance involves his own hypnotism, transforming him into the alter ego he refers to as “That Person”. Singing, swearing and shouting like a man possessed, Mullican’s use of hypnosis allows him to exploreprocesses of personification and psychological projection.

Hosted by Artspace, Mullican’s performance coincideswith an exhibition curated by Wes Hill that features Mullican’s works alongside those by the British artist Richard Grayson, held at UTS Gallery.
