Though ‘dysfunctional family reunites, forcing withheld trauma to bubble to the surface’ might be the most cliched theatrical plot device in history,The Great Fire‘s humour and intelligence make it stand out from the pack.

The Great Fire, a tragicomic dissection of the woes and worries facing Australia’s middle class, has been announced as part of Belvoir’s 2016 season.

The ten-actor-strong production will be helmed by Eamon Flack, and is being presented as a kind of companion piece to Belvoir’sThe Blind Giant Is Dancing. Both have the same targets in their sights – the struggles of the ‘everyday Australian’, whatever that person looks like – but they go about disseminating them in very different ways.

The Great Fireruns from Saturday April 2 till Sunday May 8. Tickets are available from the Belvoir website, here.
