Surveying 3,000 participants, a world-first research project conducted by Entertainment Assist and Victoria University found that 44 per cent of music industry workers have moderate to severe anxiety. This number is ten times higher than the general population.

“Watching a friend’s struggle and my inability to assist and help, I deicded it was time to begin an open dialogue about the issue of mental health within our industry,” says the produder of Out From Under, Matthew Henderson.

Out From Under is a special event that aims to remove the taboo surrounding mental illness within the entertainment industry. The evening will be hosted by Gorgi Coghlan, and directed by Kelley Abbey. It will feature performances from the likes of Debra Byrne, Silvie Paladino, Rob Mills, Ben Abraham, Casey Donovan, Heather Mitchell and Damien Leith.

The event will also include a panel of psychologists and leading experts in the mental health field, hosting a conversation about education and awareness about how to help recognise the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The funds raised from the night will help support the mental health of workers in the Australian entertainment industry.
