Destination Chippendale is launching its firstExplore Chippendale: Free Gallery Walking Tour for the year.

Professional arts curator Suzannah Smith leads the charge, guiding the tour through the galleries of The Japan Foundation, The Old Rum Store andKensington Contemporary 1 & 2.

Participants are encouraged to engage with Chippendale’s art scene in a relaxed social setting while hearingartists and gallerists inconversation and glass of wine in hand.

The Japan Foundation currently features the exhibition Zodiac, which was inspired by the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac visible at Sanjusangendo in Kyoto when artists Damon Kowarksy and Kyoko Imazu visited recently. Twenty Twenty at The Old Rum Store marks the 20th anniversary of the City of Sydney’s ChineseNew Year celebrations with 20 Asian artists.

Kensington Contemporary 1 is currently exhibiting Lisa Jones’ Milky Eye, which explores the aesthetics of invisible cities with fragmented bodies, secret networks and artistic algorithms. And the work of Setsuko Koaze and the late Yoship Koaze adorns the walls of sister gallery Kensington Contemporary 2.

Previous tours have been a great success with bookings filled to capacity.

The first Explore Chippendale walking tour of the year takes place on Saturday February 6, meeting at The Japan Foundation in Central Park.
