Sydney has a pretty good track record of intriguing clubs with interesting themes, but hordes of punters are furious after one nightclub promised ‘a secret maze’ that ended up being nothing more than fake shrubberies on the wall.
As news.com.au report, The Curious Labyrinth, which was organised by the event group The Underground Party, was set to take place in a secret location on Saturday night, if more than 500 people had committed to attend via the Facebook event page.
While the Facebook page has since been deleted, more than 5,000 people had expressed interest, with close to 1,000 saying they would attend. Tickets to the event were priced at $45, and punters were promised that they would be able to “get lost to find music, food, drinks and crazy characters among the hedges.”
While tickets included entry to the after-party, at the Bondi Junction nightclub, ticket-holders were told that the location of the titular labyrinth would not be revealed until the day of the event. When it came to crunch time, the secret location wasn’t exactly so secret after all; it was being held at the same address as the after-party.
When guests actually began turning up to the event, it was revealed that the luscious hedge maze that they were promised turned out to be nothing more than fake plants and greenery adorning the walls of the nightclub.
As news.com.au note, many punters expressed their disappointment, with taking to Facebook to express their feelings and request refunds. “I seriously doubt so many people would have bought tickets if they knew it would be a themed club night at a bar in Bondi Junction,” one punter said, while another said that the maze in question was created with “was created with a few bed sheets over the 4 walls.”
There’s been no official word from the organisers of the event yet, so it’s unclear whether or not disappointed punters will indeed be seeing the refunds that they’re seeking.
