Most people would agree that dim sums and burgers are both pretty delicious culinary choices. But, it’s fair to say that not many people have probably paired the two food items together.

Melbourne burger joint Easey’s did just that, and threw a potato cake in the mix too, serving up a creation called the ‘double Oklahoma fried onion burger’. The burger is a twist on their current ‘Motz Madness’ burger and counts two beef patties, fried onions, dim sum, and a potato cake amongst the ingredients.

The unusual creation was crowned the prestigious award of Australia’s best burger in the LITT Burger of Origin competition.

Owner of Easey’s Jimmy Hurlston spoke to Daily Mail about how high the stakes were.

“I still can’t believe our burger was crowned the best. I was just happy to be among some of the best burger restaurants and I’m genuinely honoured to come out of this as a winner,” he told the publication.

Jimmy revealed that the idea behind the champion ingredients in the burger – the dim sum and potato cake – were nostalgic of his childhood, reveling in the memory of enjoying both fried treats while on fishing trips with his dad.

The ‘double Oklahoma fried onion burger’ went head to head with 17 other burger restaurants and Hurlston admitted that he wasn’t sure his eatery would even make the final.

“The burger industry is a small place so I know the competition well and knew it was going to be tough to even make the final as I knew the other 17 burger joints were going to bring their best.

“I took a leap of faith with the Motz Madness by adding a potato cake and a dim sim but it paid off and I’m glad to see Australia embrace my creation.”

If you’re looking for a juicy burger and aren’t located in Melbourne, you can hit up runners-up Bar Luca in Sydney, Hashtag Burgers and Waffles in Brisbane or Royals in Perth for a mouthwatering meal.
