Jar Jar Binks – you either loathe him or hate him.

Would the Star Wars fandom like the character better if he was a Sith Lord? Probably not, but Ahmed Best might think so.

The actor who famously provided the voice and motion capture for the controversial character once had this to say about the long-held rumours that Jar Jar was supposed to be revealed as a Sith Lord in the prequels (as per Gizmodo): “There’s a lot about it that’s true.”

When the actual actor behind the character doesn’t dismiss a ludicrous fan theory, there has to be something behind the rumours.

The theory took flight a few years ago, with fans touting Darth Jar Jar as a possibility, a powerful Sith Lord capable of wielding Force powers. Many also thought he would be revealed as the identity of Supreme Leader Snoke in the sequels; it might have brightened up that dreary series of films.

And now, Best seems to be teasing something. “I think it’s time for my version of how it all went down,” he wrote on Twitter, accompanied by an image of what looks like a screenplay called “Untitled One Man Show.”

It’s the tweet’s hashtags that are really fascinating: #darthjarjar #jarjarbinks #fandom #theprequels.

Fans immediately inundated Best with their approval. “Sign me up. I would love to check this out,” commented someone.

“Without any clue what this is, I’m fully invested in it,” wrote someone else. “Tell me what I have to do to experience this, please.” “Colour me intrigued,” added another fan.

So while it’s unclear exactly what Best’s one man production will be about right now, it certainly seems like it’s going to reveal a lot about Jar Jar’s history. And why now? Has his NDA cleared? Here’s hoping.

We’ll keep you updated with any developments.
