Nestlé has renamed the two problematic and popular Allen’s Lollies, Red Skins and Chicos.

The brand announced the name changes back in June, penning a statement explaining that the names “have overtones which are out of step with Nestle’s values, which are rooted in respect.”

“This decision acknowledges the need to ensure that nothing we do marginalises our friends, neighbours and colleagues.”

“Chico” has been used as a slur against people of Latin-American descent in the US,  while “redskin” has long bean derogatory, racist term used to describe First Nations people in North America.

Until the ’90s, Red Skins packaging featured a graphic of a Native American man in a feathered headdress.

Nestlé has announced that Red Skins and Chicos will be renamed Red Ripper and Cheekies.
