It’s nice that you can get Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on both the PS4 and PS5 but it’s less nice when the wrong version is installed.
We’re in that crossing over phase between video game generations where developers are releasing two versions of their games – one for the current gen of consoles and one for the about to be released or newly released consoles.
Case in point: Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been released on both the PS4 and PS5 so that every PlayStation owner can play the game.
That’s really nice and all, especially since PS5 consoles are scarce as hell in Australia and it’s going to be a while until more stock arrives so many gamers will have to make do with their PS4 for now, but having these two versions of Black Ops Cold War out in the wild is causing unexpected problems.
You see, some PS5 owners may have inadvertently downloaded the PS4 version of the game and that’s causing some major problems. So how did we get to this odd little place where the wrong version of the game is being downloaded?
Well according to Eurogamer, if you’re one of the many folks who bought the Cross-Gen or the Ultimate Edition of the game, you get both the PS4 and PS5 version of the game. When you go to download it onto your console from the PlayStation Store, there’s an option to “download all.”
Now this is where the problem begins. By choosing “download all,” you’re not only downloading every game mode, you’re also downloading the PS4 version of the game.

Afterwards, it seems like the PS5 may automatically default to the PS4 version of the game when you hit the button. To avoid this, you’ll need to hit the three dots next to the play button and chose the PS5 version of the game. This will make sure you’re running the correct version of the game on your shiny new console.
Between this and the whole having to pay to back up save files, the PS5 is going through a few teething issues right now but hey, it’s what folks have to live with in order to experience a top-of-the-line gaming experience.
