Oh boy, this is the best news ever. Coles has just revealed that they will be flogging hot cross buns all year round. The sumptuous, cinnamony boys will now be available in a four-pack for a humble $3, 12 months a year baby. If consuming one of these gorgeous, fruity pillows outside the Easter period is a sin, send me on the first train to hell.
This would only be more glorious if Coles granted the magnifico Cadbury hot cross buns a residency in their bakery. One step at a time ladies.
Forget the micro-plastic scandal, of what interest is the environment if we have unrestricted access to spiced bread rolls whenever our hearts desire.
Coles are not the first supermarket to flog this blasphemous bun all year around; beloved UK supermarket giants Marks & Sparks have also jumped on board the sin bin.
The prohibition on the sale of hot crossers and other spiced bread outside of Easter can be traced back to 1592, when the London Clerk of Markets put a total ban on sales with the exception of burials, on Good Friday, or at Christmas. Penance for this mortal sin was forfeiture of all the forbidden fruit bread to the poor.
