Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor has made sure his return to the octagon was worth it, with the 31-year-old soundly acquiring a win in his first fight since 2018.

The last year has undoubtedly been a bit of a wild one for infamous Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor. Having seemingly announced his retirement from the sport last year, it wasn’t long before he was said to be back in training.

However, the headlines didn’t stop there, with McGregor not only being charged (and subsequently dismissed) of strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief, but later pleading guilty to assaulting an elderly man in a Dublin pub.

Despite his wild antics out of the octagon though, much had been made of McGregor’s potential return to the sport, having not taken part in a bout since he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in New York City in 2018.

This weekend though has played host to UFC 246, which took place in Nevada on Saturday evening, and was broadcast live on Sunday afternoon. In addition to featuring bouts between Holly Holm and Raquel Pennington, the eyes of the sporting world were set on McGregor and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, which served as the headline fight of the event.

As it turned out though, the match was the quickest on the weekend’s docket, with McGregor soundly utilising head kicks and punches to have a TKO declared after just 40 seconds.

Though it’s an impressive result, it’s a far cry from the world record of just five seconds, which took place at UFC 239 last July and saw Jorge Masvidal utilise a flying knee to defeat Ben Askren.

Undoubtedly a massive moments for lovers of the pugilistic arts, Conor McGregor’s next fight date has not been set as yet, though you can imagine the eyes of all UFC lovers will be on him when it is.
