What’s this? A new Jimi Hendrix record.

Both Sides of the Sky is the third in a series that began in 2010 with Valleys of Neptune, continued by People, Hell and Angels in 2013.

It’s worth a listen for Hendrix fans. We’ve got solid versions of Lover Man, Hear My Train a Comin’, Georgia Blues and Stepping Stone. There’s less viable tracks too but that comes with the territory of these sort of compilations.

As per the video above, the opening cover of Muddy Water’s Mannish Boy is from Jimi’s first session with Billy Cox and Buddy Miles in New York, who became his players in Band of Gypsies after he moved on from The Experience.

Hendrix will always be a rare surge of power and light. Outtakes like this are an interesting chance to listen into sessions.

Available at record stores and streaming via Spotify, Google Play and other places.
