I believe that the key to an unlimited supply of serotonin being able to enjoy a crisp glass of pinot gris in the company of four legged-friends. You’d have to strain to be miserable when both dogs and pubs are brought into the equation. Thankfully, there’s no lack of dog-friendly pubs in Sydney, we’re taking a look at our favourites.

Darlo Bar
306 Liverpool St, Darlinghurst

I’ll admit I have some kind of love affair with Darlo Bar. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is about this Darlinghurst institution that I’m so drawn to. It’s the vibe of the thing. My own beloved dog, Nonu, made his pub debut here and was treated like an absolute prince by the staff and patrons despite being the biggest, albeit cutest, fuckwit on the planet. The entire pub is dog-friendly, and you can deliver any food you like to the joint? Bueno!

East Village Sydney
234 Palmer St, Darlinghurst NSW

Just a short stroll down the road from the Darlo we have East Village Hotel. It’s a bit of a posher vibe, without leaning into being full-on pretentious. The cocktails are sublime, the food beautiful, and the staff lovely.

The Courthouse Hotel
202 Australia St, Newtown NSW

The Courthouse Hotel is the perfect venue to sink a few ciders on a sunny late afternoon. If your dog starts to misbehave, grab a couple takeaways and let them roam to their heart’s content in Camperdown Park.

The Erko
102 Erskineville Road, Erskineville

Erko is known for its dog enthusiasm, so much so that the gastro-pub is kitted out with water bowls in the beer garden and dog treats behind the bar. They also boast some of the best pub grub in the city.

The Vic On The Park
2 Addison Road, Marrickville

There’s always something going on at The Vic On The Park. Whether you’re down to shoot some hoops, catch a sports game, or just sink back a couple cold hard beers and enjoy a classic pub feed, The Vic has you covered.

The Carrington
565 Bourke St, Surry Hills

A pub that takes dog-loving to the next degree. This Bourke Street joint are so dog-positive that they’ve developed their own menu for your little friend. Dog’s eat free if you order a roast on Sundays. We’re living in the age of DINK people, children eat free is a relic of days past.

The Beresford Hotel
354 Bourke Street, Surry Hills

The Beresford Hotel may just be home to the best pub courtyard in Sydney, so spending an afternoon there should take no convincing. The dog-friendly institution also has a sweet happy hour every day from 6pm-8pm where you can enjoy $6 pints, wine and basic spirits.

Public House Petersham
292 Stanmore Rd, Petersham NSW 2049

Another corking inner-west establishment with a fondness for furry friends. Public House Petersham is the kind of pub that makes it a priority to make sure all their guests feel welcome. Those of all stripes flock here to revel in their glorious courtyard, listen to (good) music, and indulge in their expansive beer list.
