Eva Mendes has set up shop in Sydney while her partner Ryan Gosling shoots The Fall Guy – and here’s what she doesn’t like about Australia.

For the past couple of months, Eva Mendes has set up shop in Sydney while her partner Ryan Gosling shoots his latest movie The Fall Guy. While living in Australia has admittedly been a dream for the actress, there is something she doesn’t like.

While speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle in an interview, Mendes opened up about the ‘ugly’ side of Aussie life: Huntsman spiders. “The spiders now… Huntsman. Just one ugly word, huntsman. That’s been harsh.”

Mendes also revealed that she’d gotten the quintessential Aussie welcome from said spiders one too many times in the past couple of months. She’s had to fend them off in her bedroom occasionally. One, she recalled, was comfortably ‘smoking a cigarette, lying back in bed.’

No amount of reassurances will get Mendes to ease up either. “No, every Aussie, it’s so funny, everyone’s apologising to me, and then the thing that they say, you guys are so sweet, they’re like, ‘But they’re harmless!’ And I’m like, ‘No, psychological, emotional damage has been done!’” she said.

Fortunately, the perks of living here far outweigh the solitary spider here and there, although she’s had to burst more than one bubble for her children.

“At first [my daughters] really thought they’re gonna see kangaroos everywhere and like koalas everywhere, and I was like, ‘They’re not on the streets.’ Really cute, but you hate to crush their dreams, I was gonna ask Ryan to dress up as a kangaroo and just hop around a little bit. And we’d do it too!” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.

She also raved about the beaches: “The beaches are really special here, because back home, we live in Los Angeles just outside of Los Angeles. But the beaches aren’t as – where we live – they’re not as inviting, let’s say. The beaches here are so inviting. And then we got a chance to go up to the Northern Beaches and the kids were just like over the moon about it. So it’s been super fun!”
