The seat of Dragonstone in House of the Dragon is set upon the base of the volcano Dragonmont, here are all the dragons that live there.

House of the Dragon SPOILERS ahead

In the trailer for Episode 10 of House of the Dragon, several more dragons appear to be coming into the fold as we see plenty of the scaly beasts showcased throughout the preview. We know that Rhaenyra’s faction is seeking to hold up on Dragonstone following the Hightower’s decision to usurp the throne.

This is significant as it could offer them a large military advantage if they can capitalize on the force of wild/semi-wild dragons living on the island. The castle of Dragonstone is built upon the volcano Dragonmont, which created the entire island when the volcano was undergoing a series of eruptions, creating a land mass that rose from the Narrow Sea.

The volcano is still active and spews pale grey steam from various hot vents throughout the island, within the mountain is a labyrinth of smokey caverns and shafts that make perfect housing for wild dragons. At the time of House of the Dragon‘s current point, there are six dragons living beneath Dragonmont— the Cannibal, Grey Ghost, Seasmoke, Sheepstealer, Silverwing, and Vermithor. The tunnels were also used at certain points throughout the war for riders and their dragons to recuperate in secret.

Without going into book spoiler territory, it would be advantageous for Rhaenyra’s faction to expand their number of dragonriders… if they can overcome the dangers of taming wild dragons that is. Whether they succeed in this matter remains to be seen.

So far,  we’ve seen Syrax, Rhaenyra’s dragon. Caraxes, also known as the Blood Wyrm which is Daemon’s dragon. Laenor Valaryon’s Seasmoke, who blasted his way through the battlefield at the Stepstones. Vermax, Jacaerys’ dragon. Rhaenys’ Meleys, or Red Queen, who hopefully scared some sense into the Hightower’s in the latest episode.

Lastly, we saw Vhagar, the largest of the dragons. In House of the Dragon we’ve seen that originally he was tied to Laena. But following her death, a cocky Aemond claimed him as his own.

Perhaps next week we could see a rider tame the legendary Vermithor, who is one of the largest dragons at the time and would drastically tip the scales in Rhaenyra’s favour.
