Although it has been ten years since the fourth instalment of the iconic franchise premiered, Scream is set to pick up directly after events in Scream 4.

Co-directed by Matt Benttinelli-Olpin (Ready Or Not) and Tyler Gillett (Devil’s Due), the film will see original cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette reprise their roles as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley respectively.

On top of that, new cast members include 13 Reasons Why‘s Dylan Minnette, Veronica Mars‘ Kyle Gallner, The Boys‘ Jack Quid, You‘s Jenna Ortega, In the Heights‘ Melissa Barrera and Booksmart‘s Mason Gooding.

According to the film’s official synopsis, a new killer is set to don the Ghostface mask to terrorise the residents of Woodsboro.

“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past,” the synopsis reads.

The first Scream film was released back in 1996 and received critical acclaim for its satirical take on the slasher genre.

Notably, the upcoming fifth instalment is the first in the franchise to not be directed by the legendary Wes Craven, who died in 2015.

Craven also directed other horror classics like A Nightmare on Elm StreetThe Last House on the Left and The Hills Have Eyes.

Scream 5 is set to be released in Australia on January 13th, 2022.
