The OG scream queen Neve Campbell has announced she’ll be returning to the iconic role of Sidney Prescott for Scream 5.

Alongside a short video featuring the legendary masked killer Ghostface, Campbell announced her return to the horror franchise in the reboot that is set to kick off production later this year.

“Hello again, Sidney… #ImBack,” Campbell, 46, wrote next to the clip, which also features a potential release date for the film — January 14, 2022.

Campbell will be joined by fellow original stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who confirmed they’d be returning in their original roles as Deputy Dewey Riley and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers, respectively.

In her announcement, Cox shared an image of the black-and-white mask with the message written in red script: “I can’t wait to see this face again.”

Arquette released a statement at the same time the fifth movie was confirmed, “I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new,” the statement read. “Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring Wes Craven’s legacy.”

Neve Campbell had previously hinted that she was keen to get on board the new film when Ready or Not‘s Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett came on board as directors.

“I definitely had a period where I was thinking it would just be too odd to do a movie without Wes, and I wasn’t certain that I would want to do that,” she told THR.

“After spending time speaking with [directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett], they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise,” Campbell said. “I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

Radio Silence, the filmmaking group behind the reboot, added: “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true.”

“It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honoured to join her in Woodsboro.”
